Medication Safe - Dr. Ben Tsutaoka

Wow, in the span of just a few weeks, we’ve come across another product that is used to lock away medications.

This product is also called MedSafe and can be found here: www.helpsaveourkids.com. The company’s product information describes the product as: MedSafe is made of impact resistant polymer with a state of the art digital lock, so there are no keys for kids to find. No Need To Buy A New Medicine Cabinet. Attaches to most existing medicine cabinets. Can also be used in drawers, closet doors, night tables…

We were recently contacted by Axius Healthcare Security Solutions (www.axiushealth.com) about their product called the Med-Safe. It is described as a lightweight steel safe, which is portable and integrates state of the art fingerprint access technology. It appears to have several nice features. If anyone has used the product and can offer any reviews, we would love to hear from you.

This product has been renamed the Rx DrugSafe.

Medication safety is something we constantly think about at medicationsafe.com. Dr. Ben has been at the poison control center for 10 years and deals with poisonings in children, teenagers and adults daily. Finally, there is a product that can be used to lock up medications securely. It’s called the Rx Locker.

We recently received some correspondence from Michael Fleming at www.acahoy.com to alert us of some lockable storage products they carry on their website.

We came across a company that manufactures a product that employs a unique child deterrent locking system. The locking mechanism is based on the premise that children < 5 years of age do not have the hand size and are not dextrous enough to be able to manipulate the two action system. We especially like his recommendations to keep medications locked and up high and to make sure the homes of relatives are childproofed as well. You can’t imagine the countless number of calls we receive at the poison control center where kids got into a cabinet that had one of those “safety devices” securing it. Those devices give people a false sense of security. We also encourage people to find a way to lock up their medications.

The post also has a great looking device that can be mounted to a wall and is lockable, so that one can be sure children will be unable to break into it. It appears to come from the United Kingdom. Has anyone run across a similar device here in the United States? If you have please let us know. We would love to be able to recommend a device that is functional and looks great as well.
